On May 19th 2006 Sony Pictures brought Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code, one of the most popular and controversial novels of our generation, to the big screen.

The Da Vinci Code by Tibaldi

Directed by Oscar winner Ron Howard, with a cast headed by two time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks, Audrey Tatou, Sir Ian McKellen, Alfred Molina and Jean Reno, The Da Vinci Code opens with a spectacular murder in the Louvre Museum. All clues point to a covert religious organization that will stop at nothing to protect a secret that threatens to overturn 2000 years of accepted dogma. In a story of relentless adventure and scholarly intrigue, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon races breathlessly across Europe, to decipher an enigma that could prove to be the biggest cover-up in human history.

Anticipating the huge success of what will most likely be the media event of this century, Aquila Brands entered into an exclusive license agreement with Sony Pictures to launch, simultaneously with the release of the movie, the one and only official collection of The Da Vinci Code luxury writing instruments, signaling the re-birth of the prestigious TIBALDI brand after ninety years from its establishment.

The Da Vinci Code limited edition pen by TIBALDI is an opulent, precious work of art. Brimming with intrigue, it is adorned with high precision engravings of Leonardo da Vinci’s iconic Vetruvian Man, multiple locations from the movie and a series of cryptic codes. Deciphering the letters and symbols which decorate the pen’s cap reveals the words which, in the book and film, enable the cryptex box to be opened.

Phi, the concept known as the Divine Proportion, has been invoked in every aspect of the design and development of the The Da Vinci Code pen’s components. The golden number (1.618) is present in each and every part of its structure. For example, the proportion between the pen’s cap and the visible portion of the barrel when the pen is closed is 1.618. Even the pen’s accompanying case - a reproduction of the movie’s cryptex box, a guardian of ancient secrets – is measured in multiples of the phi coefficient.

Phi has been used in art, architecture and music for centuries, often unintentionally. It also occurs constantly in nature. It was first recognized when the 13th century mathematician Fibonacci discovered an extraordinary mathematical sequence, where each number equals the sum of the two previous numbers. This became known as the Fibonacci numbers and in the 18th century, a further mathematical relationship between the numbers was discovered. Every number is approximately 1.618 times larger than the number that precedes it. In The Da Vinci Code story, phi unlocks the code to understanding a critical message.

In The Da Vinci Code, the world’s greatest works of art contain secrets with the potential to change the course of mankind. High precision engravings of Leonardo da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man, St. Sulpice Cathedral, the Eiffel Tower, the Arche de Triomphe and the Parthenon decorate the pen’s barrel, while the 18K gold nib features The Da Vinci Code logo.

The cap and barrel are richly decorated in low-relief, three dimensional engraving, with cryptic symbols including a five pointed star, phi and fleur de lis.

Every element of the pen has been meticulously crafted, combining sophisticated computer-operated cutting and shaping machines with the finely honed skills of Italian master craftsmen.

The Da Vinci Code pens by TIBALDI are produced as a numbered limited edition, reflecting the divine proportion according to which they have been designed and constructed.
