I was born on a cold, snowy day in January 1948, in Cape Girardeau, MO. Growing up there I recall using Sheaffer School Pens as my first fountain pens. Vietnam was still a hot spot when I graduated from college in 1970 (BS, Accounting), so it was off to the USAF for the next eight years. While serving in Thailand in 1975, I bought my first GǣgoodGǥ fountain pen, a sterling silver Parker 75, a pen I still have. On leaving the USAF in 1978, I was employed for the next 20 years as a U.S. Postal Inspector, conducting criminal investigations, primarily employee thefts and major mail fraud. I retired in 1999 and followed up on a long standing goal by going to law school, graduating in 2002. After 18 months of representing the Gǣdowntrodden and oppressedGǥ as a public defender, I GǣretiredGǥ again to devote time to the Internet business, Parkville Pen, that I started in 2003. I still practice some law, taking appointments as a special public defender for the State of Missouri.
Broadly, my collecting focus is hard rubber pens, primarily Waterman, with a smattering of other brands. Narrowly, my current interest is in collecting, researching and studying pens from the Kraker Pen Co. of Kansas City, MO. In modern pens, my primary interest lies in collecting and researching the Sheaffer Connaisseur Collection (1985-1996). I enjoy using my pens, whether modern or vintage, and use fountain pens every day.
