My love for pens and stationery began in my childhood when I often saw my mother writing letters to family and friends with a Waterman fountain pen. My first fountain pen was a Sheaffer school pen. After I got my first job, I bought myself a silver cisele Parker 75 and (wrongly) assumed that would permanently take care of my fountain pen needs. Some years later, after discovering the now defunct Ikonpen web site, my interest in pens was rekindled and I bought a Targa, a Sonnet, and others. Over the years the size of my "collection" has grown and shrunk along with life changes. Sixteen years spent in Japan as an English teacher gave me a special appreciation for pens and the value of the handwritten word from an Asian perspective. I"m now back in the U.S. (Pacific Northwest). These days my tastes and writing comfort tend toward large pens (MB 149 size) with stub or italic nibs.
In the past I've been involved with hobbies such as travel, calligraphy, drawing/painting, playing the guitar, baking, reading (I love SF/Fantasy--things by C.S. Lewis and Tolkien), and language study (French, Spanish, American Sign Language, NT Greek, Japanese).
These days I spend most of my free time with Biblical studies (Early Church Fathers, etc.), listening to music, enjoying my Mac/surfing the internet, and, of course, Snailing with Pentrace friends.
