Biography # 321 email: dbidner@ofina.on.ca

Born and raised in Toronto Canada I live with my wife Marla and 15 year old daughter Rebecca. Marla was born in Vancouver Canada and she has family there and in Manchester England so we often find ourselves having holidays in those parts of the world. I work for the Ontario Provincial Government which is like a State government. Its not that straightforward to describe what I do so lets just say some policy analysis along with some treasury functions.

I haven't been collecting pens all that long but have always appreciated them. In 1995 I purchased a Montblanc Hemmingway ball pen and was happy with that for quite some time and I spent most of my time on watch sites beginning around 1999. A little over two years ago I discovered Pentrace and have been hooked on fountain pens ever since. Watch collecting is very expensive and you usually have to sell one to get another. I've found that one can experience, enjoy and own many more fountain pens on the same budget. My first vintage pen was an English Parker Duofold purchased off the green board but it had a problem when it arrived. After some research this led me to a local retired Parker employee who did repairs and who also sold pens. This repair person was like a personal tutor and he provided me a very good education on pens which has helped me a great deal in my collecting. So having that problem pen was actually quite fortunate. While I first concentrated on pens from the 1950s and earlier, my current favourites are big pens like Tibaldi, Montblanc, Danitrio, Sheaffer PRM etc.

Not sure where my collection is going next but a big part of the pleasure is constantly discovering new pens and the wonderful people I've met along the way.
