I live in Houston, Texas with my wife Jean. We have two sons, ages 26
and 22, both living away from home. So, we are deeply into the "empty
nest" syndrome. Jean retired last year from teaching, but I am still
working; I have almost 34 years with Chevron Corporation, currently as
an internal consultant on Project Management and Change Management.
Jean uses fountain pens, but our sons are too hooked into the computer /
e-mail / text messaging world to take up writing by hand for pleasure.
My job involves a great deal of international travel, which affords me
the opportunity to hunt for pens in a lot of "cool" places (some of
which are pretty hot, temperature-wise). I accumulate pens rather than
doing "focused" collecting. I have a lot of modern pens, and of these
my favorites tend to be made by Bexley, Pelikan, Lamy, Visconti, and
Pilot/Namiki. In vintage, I also have many across a wide variety of
manufacturers (Parker, Waterman, Sheaffer, Wahl, Mabie-Todd, Salz Bros.,
Conway Stewart, et al).
I tend to use almost all of my pens, except for a couple of the vintage
ones which are in true "mint" condition. Over the last couple of years
I have discovered the joy of italic nibs, so I do have many of the
modern pen nibs customized by the likes of Richard Binder and Deb
Kinney.
I try to attend a couple of pen shows each year, so I look forward to
meeting many more of you Pentracers as time goes by. I am on the snail
mail list; please feel free to drop me a line and I'll reply. Cheers!
