O. K. I'm not good at these things but here goes. I was born in Sheffield, England in 1962 and I'm the oldest of 4 (2 brothers, 1 sister). I'm in engineering and for the last 17 years i have worked 12 hour nights, 5 nights p/w(that don't 'arf put a kink in your social life). Just started a new job though, working CNC's, making replacement joints for the medical profession.

I fell into this obsession by accident about 18 months back. One day, while cruising the Bay, not looking for anything in particular, my eye got caught by a circa 1880's Tiffany 14k magic pencil. It came complete with its own, original box and looked stunning. I had to have a bid, i won ($36). I figured i got myself a good deal there, and when it fell through the letter box, i was convinced, it is stunning. So i decided to collect pencils, got a few more gold, some silver and some novelty then decided i needed a decent pen to go with 'em, typed "pen" into search window and WOW, i had no idea. I was just a nipper the last time i had used or even SEEN a fountain pen, but i did get a feeling of nostalgia and decided i had to have one. I wasn't going to spend a fortune on something i might not use so my first pen was a Conway Stewart Universal 479, resacked and ready to use ($11). It came through, i inked it up, i tried it out, so much smoother than a B/P. From then on i was hooked. Collection stands at just over 100 at the moment, no focus yet, all shapes, sizes, colours and makers but i do have a fondness for the woodgrains and obscure British makers.

My hand writing is just about legible at the moment but i'm not much good at the conversational aspect of these things. I would hope to improve on both these aspects if someone would like to snail with me. I think I've waffled long enough now.

Hope to hear from someone soon, and I'll say "pretty please with sugar on", if it helps.

Other interests:
reading
fishing
live role play
archery
and driving 100 miles to the coast at midnight, sitting on the beach with a cigar, watching the stars and listening to the sea for an hour, then going home for a cuppa (my friends think I'm mad but life is short and you got to do these things now and again).
