Kim Sosin (Kim)
Biography # 314 email: kim@penquest.com

I have never been accused of being too focused on building a *coherent* pen collection. Do I like modern or vintage? Answer: yes! Conklin crescents and vintage Pelikans are my favorites and I think that I have a quite nice Conklin crescent collection. Other than that, I have pens of all kinds sticking out of holders of all kinds covering my desk and I use all but a few of them.

I guess a bio implies that some personal history should be provided. In my childhood hometown in Nebraska (town pop 1100 then but less now), our the front yard was in town and the backyard was in the country. The only jeweler in town sold the nice pens (Sheaffers and Esterbrooks I remember), which I loved from the first time I saw them. My first pen was a Sheaffer desk set I saw in the jeweler's window. I went home and got my saved birthday money from my Grandmother, and bought it for my new little desk. My second pen was a red Esterbrook, purchased because my friend had a blue one and I was green with envy! However, I didn't consider myself a collector until a few years ago when I found online pen communities like Pentrace.

My profession is Professor of Economics at University of Nebraska Omaha. I should say it "was" because I'm retiring this summer. I'm looking forward to more pen shows, more pen buying and selling, and more travel. I'm also looking forward to a lower golf score, but that doesn't mean it will happen!

Best wishes to all and to Pentrace!
