I got my first fountain pen, a sheaffer for a high school graduation present. It didn't make much of an impression on me until I found out one of my best friends in high school ONLY used a fountain pen. He was a classy guy, played chess, wrote plays, smoked, wore old beat up sweaters and... used a fountain pen. I was hooked (Only on the fountain pen part)
My first high end pens were sheaffer targa lacquers, one red and one green... I've branched out since then but I find I have more sheaffers and parkers than any other kind of pen.
I live in Santa Fe, New Mexico, having recently retired from Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. Gallaudet is the world's only liberal arts university for Deaf people in the world and it was a pleasure to teach there.
Now I eat enchiladas for a living (I wish).
